Another day, another iPod. Not exactly.
For Apple, who currently holds 75% of the digital music player market, a new iPod is a big deal. However, the new iPod Nano is all about being small - really small. The new iPod is only a quarter of an inch thick. It still comes with Apple's click-wheel interface, but this time with two color choices: all white or all black.
The iPod Nano isn't much larger than the iPod Shuffle (Apple's offering for the workout crowd), but it holds a lot more music. The two size options are the 2 GB and the 4 GB models. Considering that 4 GB can hold about 1000 songs which would take somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 days to play without repeating, the iPod Nano is a big step forward.
Apple also announced a new phone with Motorola which can play songs downloaded via iTunes. The phone can hold 100 songs and will be available first through Cingular. |
