Back in 1991, when Wheeler, Inc. (the precursor to Responsive Network Services) was first formed, the term “mission critical” didn’t usually apply to computer systems in small businesses. For many, computers were an added convenience: the “glorified typewriter” and “electronic ledger”. In cases where the computer systems were central to critical business operations, there were often manual systems in place in the event of computer failure or maintenance.
Now, taking the computer system away from an organization for more than just a few minutes results in a state of panic bordering on office chaos. Part of the reason for the increase in dependency has to do with email which has added a means of communication which is available only via our computer system and the Internet. Fortunately, computer hardware and software has improved in the areas of reliability and stability.
At the same time, we have additional threats from viruses and spyware which require constant attention. As our dependency on these special machines continues to grow, it is important to be forward looking as to where technology can increase productivity. At the same time, we need to shore up our redundancy and reliability to keep our offices running with added efficiency. To see how this applies to your firm, take some time to discuss this with your Responsive consultant. |
