Hackers are taking advantage of a recently discovered flaw in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6.0 browser. This problem is unique in that Internet Explorer can be compromised just by visiting a website with the malicious code. In addition, if the code is executed by Outlook, Outlook Express or AOL in the form of an HTML email the machine can be controlled remotely. The good news is that the malicious code does not affect machines running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. The bad news is that it affects virtually every other type of machine including Windows XP with Service Pack 1 and Windows 2000 with all service packs. Microsoft has not yet delivered or even announced a patch for these systems yet.
