Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has been a frequent topic of late with these eNewsletters. Since it makes so many changes and improvements to the security settings for Windows XP machines, it is an update which requires a great deal of attention. Another reason why we’ve mentioned this so frequently is that Microsoft intends to distribute this via the new and improved Windows Update. Here’s the latest: Microsoft delayed the general distribution until this week to give office users more time to either install the service pack manually or delay the automatic update until a time of their choosing. The version for Windows XP Home began automatic updating this week. We have already installed Service Pack 2 on a number of Windows XP Professional computers so we understand many of the differences our users will be facing. The service pack is an important and valuable upgrade to Windows XP and we look forward to the benefits it will bring. Naturally, we don’t expect it to be perfect and we know it will not be the last patch to this operating system. But it is better than what we’ve had in the past. And, at least it’s a free upgrade from Microsoft.
